How to make soft IDLIS | Healthy breakfast recipe | from batter to steaming hot IDLI


Lets prepare traditional south India dish IDLIS, soft idli batter at home which are not just soft but also melts in your mouth. This is a perfect breakfast recipe. I assure you wont get disappointed with this idli recipe as it's my MOM's recipe :)

Here is the ingredient:

250 gram Urad Dal/Lentils
500 gram Idli Rawa/Semolina
3-4 methi dana/fenugreek seeds
2 tsp baking soda
Salt to taste
3 TBSP oil
Water as needed


Procedure

  1. Firstly soak urad dal/lentils  alongwith methi dana or fenugreek seeds in water for about 8-9 hours
  2. Now take 500 grams Idli rava , you get this special type of rava in market or semolina especially to prepare those grainy south Indians perfect idlis.
  3. Wash idli rawa and remove excess water.
  4. Grind soaked urad dal into paste and add this to idl rava and mix it well . Now add water to get right flowly consistency . It is very important to get this consistency as it will determine softness of idlis alongwith good fermentation.
  5. Once mixed well  keep it overnight to ferment
  6. Idli batter is ready , to this add baking soda , salt to taste , 3 TBSP oil , mix it and keep it aside for 10-15 minutes


  1. Now lets prepare idli maker
  2. Spread oil on each idli cups and spread the batter , if you don’t have idli maker then you can put it in a cooker bowl greased with oil and pout in the batter.
  3. Now keep the idli maker in cooker to steam it.
  4. Prepare cooker by adding water and keeping a rack. Over the rack place idli maker and close the lid without nozzle and let it steam for 20 minutes.



Steaming hot Idlis are ready , serve it with sambhar and coconut chutney , just cant wait to grab one !!!
